Position: Patent Illustrator - Independent Contractor
Key Responsibilities

Review and analyze informal drawings, sketches, photographs, and other reference materials provided by clients.

Convert client-provided input into accurate line art patent drawings in compliance with Patent Office requirements and standards.

Ensure all illustrations maintain consistency, clarity, and technical accuracy for patent filing purposes.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for the role of Patent Illustrator, candidates should meet the following criteria:

Relevant Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in preparing patent drawings and illustrations.

Educational Background: A Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of perspective and orthographic projections, as well as familiarity with mechanical components and assemblies.

Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D. Expertise in tracing and creating precise technical illustrations is essential.

Technical Drawing Skills: Excellent drafting, drawing, and sketching abilities with keen attention to detail.

Creativity and Visualization: Ability to interpret rough hand sketches, photographs, and conceptual ideas, and transform them into patent-compliant drawings. Strong visualization skills and the ability to anticipate the final output are highly valued.

Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills to understand client requirements, coordinate with inventors, and respond to correspondence professionally and promptly.

Responsibilities

Create 3D CAD models and technical drawings based on project requirements, sketches, specifications, and design concepts.

Maintain accurate documentation of design iterations, decisions, and revisions.

Participate in design reviews and present concepts and progress to internal and external stakeholders.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to project timelines and deadlines.

Prototyping, problem solving, creative solutions, researching.

Design for change – understanding the project and modeling with the correct design intent to allow for easy updates where they are most likely to occur.
Requirements
You should have the following qualifications and criteria to apply for the role of a CAD Designer:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant program such as mechanical engineering, architecture, or industrial design.

Proficiency in using CAD software, such as AutoCAD Fusion, SolidWorks or similar tools.

Proven experience as a CAD Designer or in a similar role.

Previous experience in sheet metal design, component design and or aluminium extrusion design
-
Strong understanding of engineering and design principles, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and material physics.

Application of DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) principles.

The ability to identify and resolve design challenges and technical issues.

Efficiently manage time and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.

Adaptable to new software, design standards, and project requirements as they evolve.
